Rejuvenative Bioengineering
SENS III Conference
September 6 - 10, 2007
SCIENTISTS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE GATHER TO CONQUER AGING!
Registration is now open for the third Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence (SENS) conference to be held September 6-10, 2007 at Queens' College, Cambridge.
The symposium is being organized by my good friend Aubrey de Grey, Founder of the Methuselah Foundation. More information here: http://www.sens.org/sens3/
Rejuvenative Bioengineering
Rejuvenative Bioengineering is a term I've coined to describe the burgeoning area of research focused on repairing the damage of aging. Today the term Regenerative Medicine is typically used to describe efforts to repair or replace damaged tissues and organs. Rejuvenative Bioengineering describes research and therapeutics to repair and replace the fundamental damage of aging at the cellular level.
Rejuvenative Bioengineering is wholly distinct from what most people imply when they speak of "anti-aging". Today most health advice and "anti-aging" research focuses on preventing disease and slowing the rate of aging. I'll discuss this in my health and fitness section, but this is not Rejuvenative Bioengineering.
Put simply, Rejuvenative Bioengineering will literally enable old people to become young again. A 75 year old could grow young to look and function like a 25 year old. Repeated treatment with rejuvenative therapeutics will make it possible to extend youthful lifespan indefinitely--limited only by disease and accidents.
Robust human rejuvenation will be the single greatest achievement in the history of mankind. The implications for a better world are staggering.
We are living at the dawn of a new age. Reversing human aging may become a reality within the next 20 years. This is truly the most exciting time to be alive on this earth since its creation.
I have the privilege of being a founding volunteer supporting the Methuselah Foundation. This foundation, headed by Aubrey de Grey, is the nexus of an international effort to reverse human aging.
